DAY ONE
10 - 4 PM
INTRODUCTION TO THAI MASSAGE:
5 HOURS with lunch break
You do not need to be a practicing massage therapist to take this class! This class is open to anyone interested in exploring hands-on healing and therapeutic touch through the art of traditional Thai massage and is ideally suited to couples, friends and family, as well as massage therapists interested in learning new skills to easily incorporate into your existing practice and yoga teachers who want to learn/practice some therapeutic hands-on techniques. Come spend the day exploring this dynamic and fun massage style!
Thai massage is a traditional form of healing that includes a series of applied stretches and assisted postures while incorporating acupressure techniques to the ‘sen’ energy line system. This one-day workshop will introduce the student to the practice of traditional Thai massage as performed on the floor. Working in the supine, prone, side-lying, and seated positions, we will learn to address the body using a combination of assisted stretching, applied compression, and various acupressure techniques. Class discussion will consist of topics ranging from traditional Thai medicine, anatomy of the muscles and fascia, correlations to yoga and Chinese medicine, and reference to other modalities of Thai medicine. This full-body approach to massage is extremely beneficial for the musculoskeletal, connective tissue and nervous systems as well as supporting the circulatory, respiratory and immune systems. The day will focus on the traditional routine as taught in Chiang Mai, introducing the student to proper body-mechanics and the skills needed to comfortably practice on a mat on the floor. For massage therapists, upon completion a certificate will be issued for 5 CEUs.
DAY TWO
10 - 3 PM
TOOLS OF THE TRADE:

This workshop will introduce some of the other techniques of traditional Thai massage including Tok Sen (Thai hammer massage), Luk Pra Kob (herbal compress therapy), Pah Koh Ma (scarf-massage), and the practice of cupping and scraping the skin. This class is a fun and informative exploration of some of the other techniques associated with Thai medicine.
Please wear clothing that can allow access to the back. No CEUs available.

My studies in massage and bodywork began in Eugene, Oregon in 1993. After completing my studies and earning my license to practice massage, I travelled to Thailand where i was to spend the next three months studying and honing my skills as a student and practitioner of Nu’ad Bo Rarn (Traditional Thai Massage). Upon returning home to Pennsylvania in 1995, I immediately began to introduce people to this form of bodywork commonly referred to as Thai massage. In 1996 I began teaching workshops in basic Thai massage techniques at yoga studios in the Pittsburgh area while continuing to practice. With my knowledge of Thai bodywork and my further studies in Shiatsu as well as Chinese medicine, I began teaching Shiatsu at a school just outside of Pittsburgh in 1998 and began my formal training in Shiatsu in 1999. In the Spring of that year I also opened the doors of my practice. In 2002 I began teaching at the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy and I have continued in the role of senior Shiatsu instructor at the school into the present.
