Curious to learn more about trauma-informed care? Interested in a deeper understanding of the therapeutic benefits of somatic practices like yoga & breathwork? Join Kerri for an informal community gathering to connect, learn and discuss!
Last weekend Kerri introduced her Trauma-Informed Yoga Initiative and the response has been amazing! The heartfelt sharing that came out of that circle has inspired this gathering to continue the momentum that was sparked on the equinox. Kerri will lead a short movement and breath practice followed by a brief introduction to trauma-informed care to get the conversation started. Bring your questions and curiosities as well as your own knowledge and input if this is familiar territory for you. Let's continue the conversation, connection and community building!
Trauma-informed care is a growing paradigm that is expanding through all aspects of our culture as we continue to understand the long term effects of various types of stress and trauma on our physical and mental health. These effects show up in our bodies, behaviors and relationships, and ultimately result from the impact trauma has on our nervous system. The effects can be different for everyone and there are also some consistent emergent patterns. Trauma-informed care emphasizes creating a safe, supportive environment that helps people rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. Because of the way trauma can be stored/held/repressed in our bodies, a therapeutic mindfulness based yoga practice with a trusted guide supports healing and resilience through a gradual retuning and reprogramming of the nervous system.
The Trauma-Informed Yoga Initiative is founded on the belief in the transformative power of yoga to foster healing and resilience. As steward of this initiative, I am committed to offering compassionate, healing-centered yoga services to individuals and communities impacted by trauma. Through accessible therapeutic yoga programs, my goal is to support and empower individuals on their healing journey, making this invaluable resource available to those who need it most. I am excited to create and share this initiative as this work has become my passion. I will soon be sharing more about my upcoming offerings, including classes at the studio, some work with Penn State and hosting a training next summer!
